North West Friends of Israel (NWFOI) welcomes the signing by Councillor (Cllr) Tamoor Tariq of the NWFOI "Charter for Israel".
Following on from Cllr Tariq's apology for his tweet about Michael Gove, we believe that he now fully understands the complexities of the issues relating to Israel and the Palestinians.
Cllr Tariq's signing of the Charter for Israel, which emphasises the need for a two state solution, denounces terror attacks on Israeli civilians, rejects the notion of Israel as an apartheid state and makes it clear that Jews in the UK should not be attacked for Israel's actions, shows he is sincere in his apology.
By joining the 350+ MPs, Councillors and political candidates who have also signed the "Charter for Israel", and having apologised for his earlier actions, Cllr Tariq has certainly done what is necessary to rectify the situation. NWFOI, together with various representative Jewish bodies who worked with us to achieve this solution, look forward to working with Cllr Tariq in the future in our common goal of trying to achieve peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
